Over the past few years, I’ve made it a personal goal to make sure Jesus has a bigger role in our family’s Christmas celebrations than Santa. While we still love the lights, cocoa, and holiday fun, I’ve discovered that the most meaningful memories come when we focus on the true reason for the season — the birth of Christ.
Here in East Texas, we’re incredibly blessed to have churches and ministries that bring the Christmas story to life through unforgettable community events. From live nativity scenes and walk-through Bethlehems to hayrides that tell the story of Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection, these experiences offer families a powerful way to pause, reflect, and celebrate together.

Shreveport–Bossier Nativity Celebration

Drive Through Bethlehem – Whitehouse
Experience the Christmas story in a whole new way at First Baptist Church Whitehouse’s Drive Through Bethlehem — a free family event that lets you travel back to the night Jesus was born, all from the comfort of your car.
As you slowly make your way through the live nativity scenes, you’ll see the bustling town of Bethlehem come to life — Roman soldiers on duty, shepherds watching their flocks, and the manger where the Savior was born. Families can listen to the story unfold through the audio narration provided online as you drive through.
It’s a peaceful, meaningful tradition that’s perfect for all ages, just the beauty of Christmas told under the stars.

This free family event carries you back in time on a hayride to the city of David, where you’ll walk through the life of Jesus — from His humble birth in Bethlehem to His death and resurrection. Every stop along the path brings Scripture to life with beautifully re-created scenes, live actors, and a newly renovated set that makes this year’s experience even more powerful.
Families can warm up afterward with free cookies, hot chocolate, and coffee — a sweet way to wrap up a night filled with faith and wonder.

Christmas in the Woods – Outdoor Nativity
For more than 30 years, families across East Texas have made Christmas in the Woods a treasured holiday tradition — and it’s easy to see why. Hosted by Forest Home Baptist Church, this free drive-through event brings the wonder of Christmas to life through an unforgettable outdoor experience.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll be surrounded by twinkling lights, festive music, and 13 beautifully detailed scenes featuring more than 150 cast members. You’ll pass through Santa’s workshop, Mrs. Claus’ kitchen, The Polar Express, and even a lively biblical marketplace before arriving at the heart of the story — the Nativity, where the birth of Jesus is tenderly portrayed.
Guests are invited to stay cozy in their cars while volunteers hand out free hot chocolate for the ride. It’s a peaceful, joy-filled way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with your family.
