Season: June
One of my favorite summer activities is going blueberry picking with my kids. My oldest isn’t the biggest fan of the picking part, but he always tags along because he knows there will be some delicious treats made with our haul afterward!
If you’re looking for the best blueberry farms in the 903 area, East Texas has some wonderful U-pick farms that are perfect for a family day out. It’s always such a fun way to spend a summer morning together!
Whether you’re munching on berries as you go or planning a batch of homemade blueberry muffins, these East Texas U-pick farms offer the perfect family adventure!

Before you load up the kids and head out to the farm, here are a few things to keep in mind to make your day sweet (and a little less sweaty):
🫐 First things first: Always, always check the farm’s website or Facebook page that morning before you go! Opening days and hours can change daily depending on how many berries are ripe and ready.
🫐 Price check: Berry prices usually get updated each season, and you’ll find the latest info on their social media or website. (I try to keep updated on the pricing, but sometimes I make mistakes. )
🫐 Beat the heat: Tyler summers are no joke, y’all. There’s usually no shade in the berry fields, so plan to get there right when they open. Trust me — early mornings are your best friend.
What to pack for a smooth berry-picking adventure:
Sunscreen (slather it on before you leave the house!)
Hats for everyone — big ones if you can!
Closed-toe shoes. (I personally love rubber boots because the fields can be dewy, and soggy sneakers are the worst.)
Lots of water. Stay hydrated out there!
A cooler, a laundry basket, or a big bowl for the ride home. Some farms will hand you your berries in a plastic bag, but a solid container keeps them from getting bruised.
Skip the strollers: Most fields don’t allow wagons or strollers between the rows. When my littlest was just one year old, I used a backpack-style carrier, and it made life SO much easier.
Picking baskets/buckets: Some farms will hand these out when you check in, but it doesn’t hurt to double-check.
Bonus tip: Bring a pair of comfy shoes for the drive home — because those boots? They’ll be HOT after a few hours in the field.
Happy picking, friends! 🍓🫐🌻
